He does really good sometimes and then really bad other times. Is this something outside help can fix, like obedience class?

Obedience classes will help teach both you and your dog how to work together.
Have you tried crate training -sold at most pet stores- wonderful tool in potty training.
Regulate his feeding times and take him out about 30-45 mins after each meal. Walk him (which Pits needs to burn the energy off anyway) to help him get ready to go potty. LEAVE water out all the time though.
You must stay on top of things with patience’s, treats (to praise him) & firm voice. No hitting when he makes a mistake just show him the proper place to go.
They need these classes -stronger breed of dog and you need to know how to handle him now while he’s a puppy.
It won’t take long when you become the master-top dog so to speak- they are people please rs!
I have a pup
whenever he pooped or weed inside i sprayed where he weed with something and he never went in that exact spot again
dogz go to the toilet by scent
every hour or so put him on a leash and take outside where you want him to poop or wee and encourage him in a bright voice
and he will realise thats where he wees or poops
best in a distraction free place
I would suggest when home take him out every thirty minutes and increase this by five minutes every week till he can learn to hold on till the designated time of choice.
not sure many dogs are very trainable as far as housebreaking
goes, how many houses have you got, even a pit bull will register
signs of brain damage eventually trying to break houses, perhaps
move to japan to practice on paper homes first.
He’s still young some dogs can take till they’re over a year old to be completely house trained. Going on more walks, and this may sound silly but praise the heck out of him when he potty’s outside. Whatever you do don’t spank when there are accidents. That can make some dogs neurotic and aggravate the problem.
You have to keep on top of it with training. It’s going to take awhile before your pup is going to be housebroken. I bet you’re already frustrated, but it takes time and commitment for it to happen.
One thing you HAVE to know about pitbulls is this: always assert yourself as the dominant one out of both of you. Dominant doesn’t mean start yelling, screaming, being cruel to your pup… but train him to where he knows that you mean what you say when you tell him a command and that you’re firm yet patient with your training. I have a pit/lab mix whom was already housebroken when we got her, but she still had chewing habits that needed to be fixed, and pitbulls can sometimes be a challenging breed to train just because they’re naturally dominant. Just be sure that in all occasions YOU have the upper hand of the situation.
Best of luck!
I have a 10 month old pitbull, and he was house trained within the first 2-3 weeks. I bought him at 2 months and i did this by crate traing him. He had a few accidents at first but he did not like being locked up with his own stinch at night. ( Put him in a crate at night and wake up early to let him out) do this on a set schedule every morning so that he gets used to it. In the day(monitor him) but let him stay outside for a while so that he knows thats where he goes… good luck
