Is your Golden Retriever a good watch dog?

I’m convinced that if my house were burglarized, my Golden Retriever would do a great job of watching the burglars take all of my good stuff, maybe even wag her tail. Therefore, I think she is probably a good watch dog.

hahaha! awe.. did you train him/her? Even though their instinct is to hunt and be a sporting dog.. You do have to train them. One thing about golden retrievers though, is that they are very social, and loveable, and just family oriented dogs.. Even if your dog is already an adult, golds are VERY easy to train! So train her to be the kind of watchdog that will ‘protect your house’ from being burglarized.. lol!
That was a good one though, I might steal your line!
Have a good one!
Nope, mine would probally go over and lick them to death!
Thats my gal!
Same with mine. My old pup would go crazy over the burglar. Licking him, wagging his tail, sucking up for attention. The only time that he’d be able to get rid of a burglar was if the guy was severely allergic to dog hair. My pup Picasso sheds too much…
yep
We always used to joke that the only thing our golden would be able to do to protect us was wag her tail and hopefully she would hit them and hurt them, but otherwise, I think our golden would have helped them take whatever they wanted.
At the same time, if we ever were play fighting with my dad and my dad pretended to tackle us, my golden would growl and bite at him to protect me and my little sister (even though my dad was just pretending).
I’m sure if the burglars tried to hurt you directly your golden would protect you, but otherwise she’s just good at watching people take the stuff they want.
I use to break into houses and once we ran into a GR and I freaked !!! My mom said " Don’t worry hes no trouble " and MA was right. As we were leaving I dropped a box, what dog picked it up and gave it to me. He turned around to see if I was going to throw him something.
